Design Brief
The lyric video was designed to visually interpret the artist’s vision of “Dark & Beautiful,” combining vintage textures, bold gridding, and grainy aesthetics. The concept explored distorted reality, where shadows transform into butterfly shapes and kaleidoscopic footage interacts with the typography and visuals. The colour scheme emphasized blue, black, and white to maintain a dramatic, cinematic tone.
Production Process
• Gathered and prepared assets including shadow footage, X-ray imagery, butterflies and textures.
• Built motion graphics in After Effects, focusing on fluid transitions between shadow shapes and butterfly forms.
• Applied colour grading and grain effects to achieve the vintage, bold aesthetic requested by the artist.
• Integrated lyrics with projection mapping techniques to make text feel part of the environment.
• Iteratively refined animations to ensure cohesion between visuals, lyrics, and music rhythm.
Outcome
The final lyric video captured the artist’s vision, delivering a visually striking experience that combined beauty and darkness. It was praised for its creative interpretation, cinematic style, and dynamic integration of lyrics, reinforcing the song’s emotional impact and reaching 293K views on YouTube.
Reflection
This project highlights my ability to translate abstract concepts into motion graphics, blending narrative, symbolism, and typography into a cohesive visual experience while working closely with the artist’s creative direction.
